Its Hungarian name, ‘kúprúdsajtoló’ (cone rod extruder), was also a term for a type of medication (cereolum) in the old Hungarian pharmacological terminology, referring to a ‘bougie.’ The bougies could be long, smooth, solid rods ending in a point, available in various forms (e.g., urethral suppositories), but the term also encompassed tube-shaped channels made from flexible materials (e.g., rubber) used for examining the rectum and urethra.

The bougie machine visible in our calendar produces a candle-like rod, or bougie, through cold extrusion.
